My practice is a synthesis of Ayurveda and Bodywork, crafted to meet your unique needs and pathways to health. It is my intention to offer warmth and a safe, nourishing exploration of the body’s wisdom in our sessions. Together, we place you in the center of your experience, empowered with compass in hand, to discover your individual journey of health and longevity.
My practice is named ‘In the Center Healing’ because that is where we fully participate in the process of discovering ourselves and our unique capacity for wellness and health.
Philosophy
Our work together will be creative and dynamic, focused on identifying and supporting your body’s unique needs. The one size fits all system of medicine does not inform the way I practice.
Instead, we will explore which activities and relationships bring you joy, serenity, balance, and support. We will determine and work to prune away that which does not contribute to peace of mind and a healthy body. Ayurveda offers an opportunity for self discovery and self retrieval and is a space to include all parts of you in the circle of health and healing.
Many times we intuitively sense exactly what we need to cultivate a state of dynamic balance, however layer upon layer of conditioning and choices, often informed by the external world, senses, media, etc. crowd our organic intelligence and create confusion. The body guides us through symptoms and the psyche speaks volumes through intuition, dreams, synchronicity, and in plain daylight. When we don’t listen to our inner barometer and choose a lifestyle or diet that may be right for someone else, but isn’t the true medicine for us, we have left our center.
The paradigm of Ayurveda offers profound guidance toward residing in our own center, our own home. Being centered and self directed is an important piece of empowering one's own individual nature and generating strength to discern what does not resonate with our own internal truth chamber and courageously embrace what does.
Prakriti is a Sanskrit word that defines our birth nature, our center point, the balanced state we can return to that is uniquely ours. Vikriti is the imbalance that arises from living out of our own personal bounds and in dissonance with nature. It occurs when we commit Prajna Parad, which translates to, crimes against wisdom. These actions originate from misuse, overuse, or underuse of the senses. We all do this, no matter how faithfully we adhere to our health routines, living on the planet and in these changing times will confront us with unbalancing extremes. As human beings, we have the unique dilemma of utilizing our powers of rationality for the purposes of reflection and growth. The downside of this gift is our capacity to think ourselves away from the ease of nature and the balance of our healthy instincts. When we go against intuition, the body’s needs and knowing, we are confronted with the task of reclaiming wisdom and personal balance by, once again, finding center.
The ancient, healing practice of circumambulation, known in many traditions as circling around a sacred site or religious object to receive the empowerment and sacred vision represented in the object, is a concept that C.G. Jung embraced and also inspires my own work. The circular or spiral energy of healing brings us back, again and again, to look, to quest for clarity, to seek deeper understanding and to inquire at the altar of our center, as to the truths about what we are holding there.
